Valentine Dragons - Workshop January 20, 2018

When I saw the Myths & Magic Stamp Set and matching Framelit Dies it was WOW at the first moment.   I have always enjoyed epic fantasy stories like the Lord of the Rings and have watch dozens of sci-fi shows with magical creatures.   So buying this stamp set was a no-brainer for me.

I also thought the 6"x6" Glimmer Paper in iridescent, light green and turquoise was a good compliment for the cards.   Here's the one I used for a Valentine.   Don't you love the fire breathing effect?       At the workshop we made a dragon card which could be a Valentine or Birthday one.   The mermaid is so cute we made one for her.

Heartfelt Folded Card - Workshop January 20, 2018

The January workshop featured two of the stamp sets from Sale-A-Bration 2018:  Heartfelt Blooms and Lots of Lavender.   The Heartfelt Blooms features a new "patent pending" stamp style which creates a beautiful deep flower stamp.     I like this style so much.    My Stampin' Up! Upline, Linda Bauwin, shared a folded card video with the Heartfelt Bloom set which was so much fun, I shared it at my workshop.

Basil Pesto

During the winter months I appreciate my homemade Basil Pesto.    Each Spring, I plant eight to ten Genovese Basil plants.  (also known as sweet basil)   This is an annual plant and grows quickly in Northeast Ohio.  I usually get two crops if I leave 2-4 leaves of growth at the plant base when harvesting the first time.    Depending on the weather, I usually harvest late July and late September.

There are many varieties of Basil:  Purple, Greek, Cinnamon, Lemon,  Thai.   But for my taste, Sweet Basil works best for pesto making and adding fresh to salads, and homemade pizza with mozzarella and ripe tomatoes.    Basil is a member of the renowned mint family, which, when used in cooking, stimulates digestion and is a beneficial antioxidant.

  • 3 Cups Fresh Basil Leaves
  • 1 1/2 cups Chopped Walnuts
  • 4 Cloves Garlic, peeled
  • 1 Cup Olive Oil
  • 1/4 Cup Grated Parmesan Cheese (optional)
  • Can salt and pepper to taste.
  • Directions:    Use a Food Processor and place the ingredients in order of:  garlic cloves, walnuts.   Process 10 seconds.   Add 1/2 cup Olive Oil, process 10 seconds.   Add rest of Olive Oil and Parmesan Cheese.   Process 15-20 seconds.    Check the texture of pesto, it should be a moist paste.   Add Olive Oil if needed.
  • Store in small 4 oz mason jars or freeze in ice cube tray.    The jar pesto is good for a few days; that's why I usually freeze the pesto so the portions are similar (about 2 Tbsps.) and last for months in the freezer.     Wrap the ice cube tray in plastic wrap.

A Thankful Note - Workshop December 16, 2018

Another card we made at this workshop was a Thank You Note.    The December holidays is such a good opportunity to say thank you for the gifts and kindness received.    I returned to my favorite combination of In Colors 2017-2019 of Lemon Lime Twist and Berry Burst.    Plus it was a chance for me to use a stamp set I really like but have not promoted it at the workshops yet.   It has a curvy, expressive design which I just liked.     Hope you do too.

A Thankful Note

  • Stamp Set - Falling Flowers and Sheltering Tree
  • Card Stock - Lemon Lime Twist 8 1/2"x5 1/2" score & fold 4 1/4" and 4"x3/4".    Berry Burst 5 1/4"x4".   Whisper White            4 3/4"x 3 1/2".   Daffodil Delight 4"x3/4".
  • Ink - Berry Burst
  • Glitter Enamel Dots
  • Adhesives - SNAIL db-sided tape
  • Paper Snipes (Scissors)
  • Directions -  Snipe the ends of each Lemon Lime Twist and Daffodil Delight 4"x 3/4" paper strips in a V shape.   Stamp the message on the Lemon Lime Twist banner.   Use the Daffodil Delight as a shading background color.   Stamp the design on the Whisper White card stock in Berry Burst and place it to leave room for the message banner.  Add some Glitter Enamel Dots and layer the message front on the Berry Burst card stock and apply to the Lemon Lime Twist card base.   You are ready to write a Thank You note.

Snow Flake Note - Workshop December 16, 2017

In Northeast Ohio we have winter.   Sometimes its mild and other times colder than most people can handle for 10 minutes or more.   So far this winter, it is a cold one, single digit temperatures.   Brrr...   So why not just go with the cold and make a snow flake note card.    Winter is the 4th Season of the Colorful Seasons Stamp Set and the snow flake stamp and framelits were perfect to use.

Snow Flake Note

Inside of Card:

  • Stamp Set - Colorful Seasons
  • Card Stock - Dapper Demin 8 3/4"x4 1/4" score & fold 3 1/4".   Whisper White (2) 3"x4" and (1) 4"x2" and some scrape for snow flakes.    Merry Little Christmas Designer Series Paper 2 3/4"xa3 3/4" and 1 3/4"x3 3/4".
  • Seasonal Layers Thinlits Dies - 3 snow flakes
  • Ink - Dapper Demin
  • Big Shot
  • Rhinestones and Clear Faceted Gems
  • Adhesives - SNAIL db-sided tape, and either Tom-Bow glue or Fine Tip Glue Pen
  • Directions - Tape the Designer Series Paper pieces onto one 3"x4" and 4"x2" Whisper White card stock.   Apply to card base.  Stamp message on remaining 3"x4" Whisper White piece and off stamp the snow flakes to give them a lighter shade of blue.  Tape it down from the fold of the inside card.     Using the Big Shot, die cut the three (3) snow flakes.   I used the Fine Tip Glue Pen and held the snowflakes in place with soft end of the paper-piercing tool.    Add Rhinestones or Gems to snow flake centers.

Thankful Card

In November, I designed a card for a workshop group using embossing and framelits techniques.   It was a fun event and just wanted to share this thankful card.

Vellum Fall Leaves - Workshop - September 9, 2017

I'm getting so many ideas every time I work with the Colorful Seasons Stamp Set.    If you buy only one stamp set from the catalog this year - this is the one to buy.    It covers 4 Seasons and there is so much you can do all year long with it.   I brought the bundled set with stamps and framelits (#145348 $54 w/24 photopolymer stamps and 17 dies) and have made dozens of cards already from it.     This card was also a way to demonstrate the versatility of Vellum Paper.

  • Stamp Set - Colorful Seasons
  • Thinlits Dies - Seasonal Layers
  • Card Stock - Whisper White 8 1/2"x5 1/2" score & fold 4 1/4"; and 4 x 2 1/4.    Vellum 3"x8 1/2".   Gold Foil 4 1/4"x2 1/2".   Wild Wasabi 4 1/2"x2 3/4".
  • Inks - Crushed Curry, Pumpkin Pie, Wild Wasabi, Tranquil Tide, VersaMark

  • Directions - Start with the Vellum paper and add color (inks) to it using Sponge Daubers.   Take the large leaf stamp and apply VersaMark embossing ink onto Vellum.   Sprinkle with Embossing Powder and heat til shiny.   Using your Big Shot, place leaves on Magnetic Platform and Cutting Pads with the Thinlit die of the large maple leaf and cut out.  Glue the back of the leaves and place on Whisper White card stock.
