WORKSHOP January 28, 2017 - Make Your Own Designer Series Paper

Ever wonder if you could make your own Designer Series Paper?   Well, that's exactly what my workshop members did.   They stamped their own Designer Series Paper using the Stamp Set:  Blooms & Wishes.   There is an endless varieity you can do making your own.   Something to consider when choosing a stamp set, use 3 large stamps and 3 smaller stamps.   This way you can fill in all the gaps and make the design more interesting.

Make Your Own Designer Series Paper

  • Stamp Set - Blooms and Wishes
  • Card Stock - Whisper White 12"x12".  Flirty Flamingo 11"x4 1/4".  Peekaboo Peach 11"x4 1/4".  Tip Top 11"x4 1/4".  Scraps of each card stock for message.
  • 4 Whisper White Envelopes; stamp back flap
  • 10" Ribbon
  • Measurements for tags:  darker shade 2"x 2 3/4"; medium shade 1 3/4"x2 1/2"; Whisper White 1 1/2"x2 1/4"
  • Rhinestones or Basic Pearls.
  • Directions:   Decide on a color for each stamp and start with the larger stamps.  Vary the color by shadow stamping and over lapping the edges of the paper.   Be fearless in your stamping, the design will come together and will look great when you cut it and tape onto the card stock base.  I have a diagram below of how to cut  and score your DSP.   I used the 1" paper by cutting it in half and taping it to the bottom inside of each card.   The box is formed by scoring 1" around the 12"x4" paper and scoring at 5 1/2" and 6 1/2".  Cut little, tiny slits to give the box some room for bending together.   Tie with ribbon the secure shape.

More Flowering Fields

I've enjoyed several of the Sale-A-Bration 2016 items this year.  I know many of my customers did and also selected the Flowering Fields Stamp Set.  It is my favorite, so I made 6 of them for myself and wanted to share the idea.

Yes, six of them at one time.   Three pieces of card stock, cut in half and ready for a greeting.   You and I are alike, making a card requires our time and resources so why not make more than one while we're doing it?   Yeah, it makes sense.   I mail about a dozen cards a month for lots of different reasons, so why not make several cards at a time.   Here's one of six I made today.

  • Stamp Set - Flowering Fields (SAB 2016) and Watercolor Wings (#139424)
  • Card Stock - Calypso Coral 5 1/2"x8 1/2" score & fold 4 1/4"; Old Olive 5 1/4"x 2 1/2"; Designer Series Paper (DSP) Wildflower Fields (SAB 2016) 5 1/4"x1 1/2"; scrape Whisper White and Hello Honey for flower circles
  • Ink:   Blackberry Bliss and Stampin' Up! coloring markers
  • Ribbon - Calypso Coral 2 pieces; 7" and 6"
  • Punches:  Circle 1 3/8",  1 1/4",  1",  3/4" and Washi Tape (#138296 $18)
  • Optional:  Honeycomb Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (#129378 $7.50)

Directions:    Cut paper according to card stock dimensions.   Emboss Old Olive card stock.   Turn over Old Olive and DSP and tape together with one-sided tape.  Secure ribbon on card front and tape down on back with one-sided tape.   Stamp flowers and butterfly, punch out.   Punch Hello Honey circles and double-sided tape together.   Place center circle first, then each side-by-side.  Stamp and punch the expression with Washi Tape punch.  Assemble onto card using Dimensionals to lift up.   Tape the message front down and tie one knot 6" ribbon in center and trim.

Label Bracket Cards

Recently I needed to create some cards to send out to dear friends I visited during my winter vacation.   I really like the Label Bracket Punch from Stampin' Up! and decided to use it.    Three punches fit perfectly on a horizontal card.   Plus I used the Wildflower Fields Designer Series Paper and the Flowering Fields stamp set from the 2016 Sale-a-Bration.   Both can be gotten for free with a $100 Stampin' Up! order before March 31, 2016.

  • Stamp Set - By TheTide (#129120 $20) and Sassy Salutations (#126707 $18)
  • Card Stock - Whisper White 5"x3 3/4" (card inside) and 2 1/2"x5 1/2" (stamping punch design).   Basic Black 2 1/4"x5 1/4".  Basic Gray 5 1/2"x8 1/2" scored at 4 1/4".   Wildflower Fields Designer Series Paper (2016 Sale-a-Bration)  2"x5 1/4".
  • Ribbon - 6 1/2" and 5" (for top knot)
  • Stampin' Up! Ink - Tuxedo Black Memento Ink (#132708 $6) and Melon Mambo (#126948 $6.50)
  • Punch - Label Bracket ((#132153 $16)

Directions:   Turn over and match the ends together of the Basic Black 2 1/4"x5 1/4" and Designer Series Paper 2"x5 1/4" with one-sided tape.  On the front place the 6 1/2" ribbon and flip over, tape down the ribbon with one-sided tape.   Add Stampin' Up! 2-sided SNAIL tape on all the edges and center on the folder Basic Gray card stock.   Stamp 3 images from By the Tide and punch out with Label Bracket punch.   Use Stampin' Up! dimensional adhesive stickers to center and apply the punches to top portion of card.   Using the 5" ribbon, tie (1) one knot ribbon firmly, trim edges.   Stamp a message on the bottom.    Open card and tape down the Whisper White 5"x 3 3/4" card stock for message writing.

Here's a card style that I use to send a small note out which looks more geometric; no flowers or butterflies.   As much as I love the pretty stuff, I need to have a more masculine styled cards too.    I used the Designer Seres Paper GO WILD which is a 6x6" paper stack.  The card stock is one of the new In Colors -  Tip Top Taupe, along with two standards, Whisper White and Basic Black.    I also use the Designer Washi Tape - EVERYDAY CHIC.

  • Go Wild Designer Series Paper Stack (6x6") (138441 $8)
  • Everyday Chic Designer Washi Tape (138385 $8)
  • Card Stock - Basic Back 3x4" and 2x4"

Here's another card stamp from the 2015-16 Host Stamp Set BEST THOUGHTS.   I like the positive message it shares "the best is yet to come".

The card is made up from card stock Pacific Point, Whisper White and Silver Glimmer Paper.   Stampin' Up!'s glimmer paper does not shed sparkles making it easy and clean to work with.    The design series paper is from the Schoolhouse collection.  I used Pool Party ribbon I had available, but you can use the 1/4" cotton ribbon (#134568, get 10 yds for $6) or the 1/8" Silver Ribbon (#132137, get 10 yds for $5).   The base paper cut is 5 1/2"x8 1/2" folded and the DSP and inside message are cut to 5 1/4"x4".

IMG_1845    I used the Blender Pens (#102845 get 2 for $10) to paint in a little Pool Party color and outline the butterfly with Pacific Point ink.  The Blender Pens have strong pointed tips which makes adding detail color very easy.
