July 2016

Workshop Summary - July 9, 2016 - Part 2 of 2

Here's the second half of the watercolored workshop cards.

Helping Me Grow Flowers

  • Stamp Set - Helping Me Grow (#140784 $26)
  • Card Stock - Old Olive 5 1/2"x8 1/2", score & fold 4 1/4"; Daffodil  Delight 5 1/4"x4; Whisper White 4 1/4"x3"; Designer Series Paper Brights Old Olive 4 3/4" x 3 1/2"
  • Ribbon - Old Olive 5"
  • Inks - Daffodil Delight and Old Olive
  • Blender Pens, Crystal Effects

Directions - Stamp the Whisper White with the Daisy stamp.  Leave room at the top for the corner stamp and the message.   Using the Blender Pens, color in the Daffodil Delight and Old Olive.   Add a little crystal effects onto the 2 flower centers.   Tape together the stamped image, to the DSP, to the Daffodil Delight, to the Old Olive base.   Tied the ribbon once and apply with the glue dot.   Trim the ribbon at an angle to finish.   Optional:   add 5"x3 3/4" Whisper White on inside.

Watercolor Embossed Rose

The Rose Wonder stamp set is so versatile.    A rose seems to be universal for love, caring, remembrance, and warm greetings.   Here are two using White Embossing Powder and Gold Embossing Powder.   The effects are different but the message is the same.

  • Stamp Set - Rose Wonder (#140697)  and Timeless Textures (#140517) and Suite Sayings (#140712)
  • Card Stock - Whisper White (2) 5 1/4"x4"; Mambo Melon 5 1/2"x8 1/2", score & fold 4 1/4"; Peekaboo Peach 5 1/2"x8 1/2", score & fold 4 1/4"
  • Inks - Daffodil Delight, Peekaboo Peach, Melon Mambo, Pink Pirouette, Old Olive
  • Embossing Powders - Gold, White
  • Aqua Painters, Fast Fuse

Directions - Emboss the full Rose stamp onto the Whisper White paper.   Using the Aqua Pen, watercolor the flower and leaves.   Paint a light wash of color and then add more ink where you to highlight and give texture to the painting.   REMEMBER - WITH WATERCOLOR YOU CAN ADD COLOR, BUT YOU CAN'T TAKE IT AWAY.   Stamp the message from Suite Sayings and a little texture from Timeless Textures.   Tape the rose onto the card base with Fast Fuse.

Workshop Summary - July 9, 2016 - Part 1 of 2

Creating watercolor effects on greeting cards is so EASY with the Stampin' Up! tools:  Aqua Painters and Blender Pens.   The Aqua Painter holds water in an attached tube.   A little ink on the brush and a little squeeze on the tube . . . and you are watercolor painting.   The Blender Pen has a specialized solutions to allow ink to be picked up and blended on your card image.  It colors the smallest details; it is like a marker pen but better because it can be the exact color you want.   I have customers using it on coloring books to get more color choices.

Wetlands Thank You

I am so enjoying the Stampin' Up! set Wetlands (#126697 $17).   It is a perfect Spring, Summer and Fall stamp.   I have seen the goose used in many Winter Holiday greeting cards.   Just a little bit of watercolor effect makes this card special.   I used the same grass and bird samples for Sympathy cards.

  • Stamp Set - Wetlands (#126697)
  • Card Stock - Soft Sky 5 1/2"x8 1/2", score & fold 4 1/4"; So Saffron 5"x3 3/4"; Basic Black 4 3/8"x3 1/8"; Watercolor Paper 4 1/2"x3"
  • Inks - Black Stazon, So Saffron, Soft Sky, Peekaboo Peach
  • Aqua Pen
  • Embossing Folder - Woodgrain (#127821 $7.50)
  • Tools - Dimensionals, Fast Fuse Tape
  • Directions - Emboss the So Saffron card stock with the Woodgrain folder.   Using the Aqua Painter, apply a light wash of the yellow, peach and blue inks.  IT IS PERFECTLY OKAY to leave some white space on the watercolor paper and not have a straight line.   Keep your paint wet and flowing.   Set aside to dry.  Once dray, stamp the images using Black Stazon ink.   Stamp the birds first guiding it along the right side of the watercolor paper.  Add the grass and then the message.    I recommend using Fast Fuse to tape onto the black card stock and use Dimensionals to mount on the So Saffron.   Use Fast Fuse again the apply So Saffron embossed card stock.

Luminary with Wetlands

Here I applied the Wetland Stamp Set grasses onto Vellum Paper (#101856 $8 for 20 sheets).   Keep your bone folder handy to create crisp folds on the vellum and the black holder base.

  • Stamp Set - Wetlands (#126697)
  • Card Stock - Vellum Paper 8 1/2"x4"; Basic Black 3 1/8"x3 1/8" scored on all 4 sides at 1/2"
  • Ink - Black Stazon
  • Washi Tape in a 1/2" or 1/4" black and white print
  • Tea Light
  • Bone Folder, Fast Fuse, Glue Dots
  • Directions - Score the Vellum Paper at 2", 4", 6", 8".   This leaves a 1/2" seam to be used to tape the luminary together.    Before you use the bone folder on the score lines, stamp the image onto the Vellum Paper.   Wait a few minutes so that the Stazon dries and then press down the fold lines.  Bone Press down the 1/2" lines on the base.   On the Basic Black holder box, score all 4 lines, then cut one fold end and place a glue dot on the inside and press together.  There's your little box.  Use Fast Fuse on the luminary seam.   At the bottom middle of the Vellum box, on each side, place 1 glue dot.   Place the luminary in the box and using your bone folder, press the glue dot to the black box sides.   Place a lighted Tea Light in the luminary and enjoy.

My 2016 Garden

My 2016 Garden is growing nicely this year.   The lettuces are ready to be harvested and there are about a dozen tomatoes started.   I have two green pepper plants and each one has one pepper.   I also have a friendly leopard frog who has decided to live under the walking boards between the garden beds.    To my utter surprise the potatoes are growing.    I bought the seeding potatoes in April and kind of forgot about them for a month.   This would of been okay, but I left them on my front porch planters where the hot afternoon sun shines.   The little potatoes looked pretty wrinkled, but a planted them always.   TO MY GREAT SURPRISE, the potatoes are growing like weeds.
