Valentine Dragons - Workshop January 20, 2018

When I saw the Myths & Magic Stamp Set and matching Framelit Dies it was WOW at the first moment.   I have always enjoyed epic fantasy stories like the Lord of the Rings and have watch dozens of sci-fi shows with magical creatures.   So buying this stamp set was a no-brainer for me.

I also thought the 6"x6" Glimmer Paper in iridescent, light green and turquoise was a good compliment for the cards.   Here's the one I used for a Valentine.   Don't you love the fire breathing effect?       At the workshop we made a dragon card which could be a Valentine or Birthday one.   The mermaid is so cute we made one for her.

Heartfelt Folded Card - Workshop January 20, 2018

The January workshop featured two of the stamp sets from Sale-A-Bration 2018:  Heartfelt Blooms and Lots of Lavender.   The Heartfelt Blooms features a new "patent pending" stamp style which creates a beautiful deep flower stamp.     I like this style so much.    My Stampin' Up! Upline, Linda Bauwin, shared a folded card video with the Heartfelt Bloom set which was so much fun, I shared it at my workshop.

Basil Pesto

During the winter months I appreciate my homemade Basil Pesto.    Each Spring, I plant eight to ten Genovese Basil plants.  (also known as sweet basil)   This is an annual plant and grows quickly in Northeast Ohio.  I usually get two crops if I leave 2-4 leaves of growth at the plant base when harvesting the first time.    Depending on the weather, I usually harvest late July and late September.

There are many varieties of Basil:  Purple, Greek, Cinnamon, Lemon,  Thai.   But for my taste, Sweet Basil works best for pesto making and adding fresh to salads, and homemade pizza with mozzarella and ripe tomatoes.    Basil is a member of the renowned mint family, which, when used in cooking, stimulates digestion and is a beneficial antioxidant.

  • 3 Cups Fresh Basil Leaves
  • 1 1/2 cups Chopped Walnuts
  • 4 Cloves Garlic, peeled
  • 1 Cup Olive Oil
  • 1/4 Cup Grated Parmesan Cheese (optional)
  • Can salt and pepper to taste.
  • Directions:    Use a Food Processor and place the ingredients in order of:  garlic cloves, walnuts.   Process 10 seconds.   Add 1/2 cup Olive Oil, process 10 seconds.   Add rest of Olive Oil and Parmesan Cheese.   Process 15-20 seconds.    Check the texture of pesto, it should be a moist paste.   Add Olive Oil if needed.
  • Store in small 4 oz mason jars or freeze in ice cube tray.    The jar pesto is good for a few days; that's why I usually freeze the pesto so the portions are similar (about 2 Tbsps.) and last for months in the freezer.     Wrap the ice cube tray in plastic wrap.

A Thankful Note - Workshop December 16, 2018

Another card we made at this workshop was a Thank You Note.    The December holidays is such a good opportunity to say thank you for the gifts and kindness received.    I returned to my favorite combination of In Colors 2017-2019 of Lemon Lime Twist and Berry Burst.    Plus it was a chance for me to use a stamp set I really like but have not promoted it at the workshops yet.   It has a curvy, expressive design which I just liked.     Hope you do too.

A Thankful Note
